If your skin feels noticeably drier as soon as the temperature drops, there is a good reason. Cold air, lower humidity and central heating can all make water loss and tightness more noticeable, even if dryness is not normally one of your concerns.
Winter skincare does not require an entirely new routine. Often the most useful change is simply choosing a moisturiser with a little more substance.
Why skin feels drier in winter
Moving between cold outdoor air and warm, dry rooms can leave skin feeling rough, tight or less supple. Mature skin can be particularly susceptible as changes in natural lipids and moisture levels make comfort harder to maintain.
A moisturiser that felt perfect in July may therefore stop feeling sufficient in January. That is not a failure of the product; your skin's environment has changed.
What should a winter moisturiser provide?
Dry winter skin usually benefits from both humectants and emollients. Ingredients such as glycerin and sodium hyaluronate help with hydration, while squalane and jojoba oil soften and condition the skin.
Texture matters too. Richer should mean more comfortable, not necessarily heavy or greasy.
Our choice: Endless Moisturiser
Endless is the richer of our two moisturisers and our first choice when skin feels dry, dehydrated or in need of more nourishment. It combines plant-derived squalane and organic jojoba oil with glycerin and sodium hyaluronate, giving you hydration and emollience in the same cream.
The finish is nourishing without feeling cumbersome, which makes Endless particularly useful through winter and equally suitable year-round for naturally dry skin.
When you need a little more
On very cold days, or whenever skin feels depleted, add a few drops of Prickly Pear Seed Oil after Endless or mix a drop into the cream in your palm. Its lightweight texture adds conditioning without turning the routine into an oil slick.
If the problem is dehydration as well as dryness, add a water-based serum first. Hydrate Moisture Serum provides concentrated lightweight hydration; Illume is the better choice when you want hydration together with niacinamide.
A simple winter routine
Cleanse gently with Unveil, add Hydrate or Illume if you need a water-based layer, then use Endless. Finish with Prickly Pear Seed Oil only when your skin wants the extra nourishment. During the day, sunscreen remains the final step.
Less, but better
Winter does not require five new products. Give your skin more water when it is dehydrated and more emollience when it is dry. A few well-chosen adjustments are usually enough.
