Carthamus tinctorius seed oil is pressed from safflower seeds. Depending on the variety, it can contain a high proportion of linoleic acid, an essential omega-6 fatty acid.

In skincare safflower seed oil is used primarily as an emollient. Its relatively light texture helps soften and condition the skin without the heavier feel of some plant oils. In an oil cleanser it also contributes slip and helps dissolve oil-soluble impurities.
